I created this fantasy style axe in Maya and rendered the images using the Arnold renderer. I modelled all the parts of the axe and the handle before I began adding other details such as the spears and the bolts. I then manually UV unwrapped each of the assets and positioned them in the UV space. I imported the model into Substance painter where I textured the different components to give the appearance of the axe being worn (dirt marks and erosion along the handle). I also used an emissive texture along with alpha patterns to create magic runes on the faces of the floating artifacts in the center. Once I was happy with the textures, I exported them and then applied them to the model in Maya. I used a HDRi to light the scene for more realistic studio lighting.
